Private Kitchen - Extended
Private Kitchen is an online platform about Dutch media composers and their music. It has a ‘kitchen’ look and feel based on the Dutch expression “take a look in the kitchen”: see what people do. And it’s based on the understanding that ‘cooking’ and ‘composing’ are strongly related to each other.
The platform promotes Dutch media composers, their music and their role in the (inter)national media industry. It offers a place for dutch media composers to present their work to peers, the media industry, and a general international audience. It facilitates conversations around central questions: How does music interact with other media forms? How do these interactions affect the composer’s creative process?
Private Kitchen provides interviews with upcoming, outstanding and established media composers. We visit media composers at their studio, ask questions in relation to projects and about the design process of a media composer. With online video calls we question media composers who works on an international level about the peculiarities of an international career. Apart from this there are columns from composers, editorials on media music related topics and the latest news about Dutch media music, such as interesting projects, composer meetings, author rights, etc.
Private Kitchen is produced by MiMM in close collaboration with ShortCutz Amsterdam and is publishes continuously. All items are published within a context in which media composers are active: film, identity, games, interactive sound art, theatre and science.

Private Kitchen - Uitgebreid (Dutch)
Private Kitchen is HET online platform door en over Nederlandse mediacomponisten en hun muziek. Het heeft een ‘keuken’-look en feel gebaseerd op de Nederlandse uitdrukking ‘een kijkje in de keuken nemen’: kijken wat mensen doen. Het is gebaseerd op het inzicht dat ‘koken’ en ‘componeren’ sterk met elkaar verbonden zijn.
Het platform promoot Nederlandse mediacomponisten, hun muziek en hun rol in de (inter)nationale media-industrie. Het biedt een omgeving voor Nederlandse mediacomponisten om hun werk te presenteren aan vakgenoten, de media-industrie en een algemeen internationaal publiek. Het faciliteert gesprekken rond centrale vragen: Hoe interacteert muziek met andere mediavormen? Hoe beïnvloeden deze interacties het creatieve proces van de componist?
Private Kitchen biedt interviews met opkomende, vooraanstaande en gevestigde mediacomponisten. We bezoeken mediacomponisten in hun studio, stellen vragen over projecten en over het ontwerpproces van een mediacomponist. Met online videogesprekken ondervragen we mediacomponisten die op internationaal niveau werken over de eigenaardigheden van een internationale carrière. Daarnaast zijn er columns van componisten, redactionele artikelen over mediamuziekgerelateerde onderwerpen en het laatste nieuws binnen de Nederlandse mediamuziek, zoals interessante projecten, componistenbijeenkomsten, auteursrechten, etc.
Private Kitchen wordt geproduceerd door MiMM in samenwerking met ShortCutz Amsterdam en publiceert continu. Alle items worden gepubliceerd binnen een context waarin mediacomponisten actief zijn: film, identiteit, games, interactieve geluidskunst, theater en wetenschap.

In this last edition Private Kitchen explores in Main Course the passions of the outstanding and irresistable music-theatre creator Huba de Graaff. My Kitchen visits the versatile composer, performer and creator during a rehearsal at the Veenfabriek in the city of Leiden. And in World Cuisine we take a look at the amazing international career of the performer, composer, choreographer and dancer Tian Rotteveel.
Chris Smith gives a clear insight in the theatre practice in the UK. And as usual this Private Kitchen magazine kicks off with an Amuse from composer and performer Loek Dikker.

In a multitude of projects, music enhances the experience of art. In Magazine #4, Music and Interactive Sound Art, Private kitchen talks to composers who are creating music and visuals for art installations: they talk about how they work, how they collaborate in projects or collectives and how they use music as art to enhance or distribute the message related to it.

In this edition game contemporary artist Nick Verstand and sound artist Salvador Breed talk about their collaboration, and about their art projects Anima and The Resonance Room.
Evelien van den Broek, music performer and producer, talks about how she creates music for projects, and tells more in-depth about her project Biophonica, an art project on mass extinction.
For World Cuisine, our videocall with a dutch composer living abroad, we talk with Malu Peeters, composer and sound designer, about her projects, and how she works within collectives like Machina eX and Henrike Iglesias.
As usual we have a personal column of Chris Smith about his feel on art in music and an game researcher and developer Sander Huiberts talks about artificial intelligence in music.

In this edition of Private Kitchen film composer Stephen Emmer and art Director Carlo Delbosq are questioned by Alexa Rodrigues and Simon de Koning about their collaboration in creating some of the most outstanding idents in the Dutch media history such as the NOS Journaal, KRO, NCRV and many others.
We take a look at the studio of KH Music and question the three composers Jeroen Kuitenbrouwer, Ward Henselmans and Daan Jansen about their compositional methods. John Groves writes about sound branding and David Lowe, composer of the BBC-idents, tells us about his international adventures as a media composer.

Music plays an important role in the emotion and flow of movies. In Magazine - #1 Music and Film, Private Kitchen provides a stage to film composers: they talk about how they work and their experiences and stories while working in the film industry.

In this edition of Private Kitchen the film composers Han Otten and Maurits Overdulve are questioned by Alexa Rodrigues and Simon de Koning about their film music and the related process for the film Marionette which was released October 2020.
We also take a look at the studio of film composer and performer Jorrit Kleijnen and ask him ten magical questions. Chris Smith writes about a ‘marriage of aesthetics’ and Vidjay Beerepoot tells us how to build an international career as a film composer.
