Young Talent Award Media Music 2022

11 years of MediaSoundHamburg: Young musicians, composers, game musicians and sound designers up to 35 years of age are invited to write a new (media) music composition for the Kaiser String Quartet.

The first three winners are invited to attend MSH MediaSoundHamburg (June 14th - June 19th 2022) including free accommodation and board.

The book, titled  IN SUNLIGHT OR IN SHADOW (ISBN 978-1-68177-559-3) contains 17 stories inspired by the Paintings of Edward Hopper. In this composition competition you‘re invited to compose a new soundtrack to one of the 18 paintings/17 stories. One of the pictures (Cape Cod Morning), doesn‘t have a story (yet!). Maybe it will see an award winning composition, though … ?

In this year’s composition competition the overall theme is “Storytelling”. In the early phase of a film, commercial, or video game, there is often a concept, an idea and/or plot illustrated by a more or less worked out storyboard. In this phase composers are often invited to already start the composition process, without knowing the actual time and timing of events and cues. In this YTA composition competition a story and/or painting can be chosen from the book. Composers are then invited to interpret the story with their own (original) musical idea, say “Soundtrack”.

Application Deadline: May 15th 2022

About MSH MediaSoundHamburg

MSH MediaSoundHamburg is an international summer school for FilmMusic, GameMusic and SoundDesign that has taken place annually in Hamburg since 2011. For six days, national and international film composers, game musicians and sound designers meet international professionals and renowned experts. In various workshops, MasterClasses and the MSH Conference, the participants work on concrete projects and get new ideas for their artistic work. We support young talents from all over the world by awarding scholarships. Since 2011, we have awarded around 100 scholarships.

We pay special attention to the promotion of women. Thus, the topic WOMEN IN AUDIO will be one of our focal points again this year.

With other attractive special events such as the YoungTalentAward Media Music, the MSH Conference, the AfricanNight and workshop discussions with directors and film composers, MediaSoundHamburg is also opening up its programme to an interested public.

The festival centre is the ibis Hotel Hamburg St. Pauli Messe.

MediaSoundHamburg is a project of Internationale Film Fernseh & Musik Akademie (IFFMA) The International Film TV & Music Academy.
