Amsterthem Unveils Seven Captivating Film Projects Celebrating Amsterdam's Diverse Talents
Amsterthem, a groundbreaking initiative celebrating the rich tapestry of Amsterdam's diverse stories through short films, proudly announces the selection of seven outstanding projects for its inaugural edition. These films, each a unique portrait of Amsterdam and its people, were carefully chosen by a distinguished panel of industry experts.
The selected projects and their respective directors are:
Oost: "De Barbara," directed by Fabienne Boekel
Noord: "Gaya Above the Clouds," directed by Finn Szumlas
Nieuw-West: "Abi," directed by Janna Grosfeld
Centre: "Delicious Solitude," directed by Masha Gurova
Zuid: "God Is A Woman," directed by Nissim Khalifa
West: "Queen of Birds," directed by Sophie van Bree
Zuidoost: "Lead by Example," directed by Yve Baya
The jury, comprising prominent figures in the film industry, played a crucial role in selecting these projects:

Bobby Boermans, Director (Mocro Maffia)
Ruby Deelen, Producer, Head of Documentary at Halal
Herco van Houdt, Journalist, Documentary, and Wildlife Filmmaker
Coco Schrijber, Director (Bloody Mondays & Strawberry Pies)
Amsterthem, developed by Shortcutz Amsterdam in collaboration with Canon, Aputure, DDG (Dutch Directors Guild), MiMM (Muziekinstituut MultiMedia), Vocas, and SuperHeroes Amsterdam, aims to showcase the compelling narratives of Amsterdammers through seven short film portraits.
The selected teams will receive extensive support, including:
€3,500 in cash for production
Canon's comprehensive provision of cameras, lenses, and expert assistance
Aputure's specialized lighting equipment, and microphones support through their sister company, Deity.
Dutch Directors Guild (DDG) offers mentorship programs with four experienced directors
Muziekinstituut MultiMedia (MiMM) provides mentorship programs for music composers
Vocas and Sachtler supply essential grip and additional resources
Shortcutz Amsterdam has established itself as a platform for emerging film talent, offering a relaxed and informal environment to showcase their work, engage with audiences, and establish connections with industry professionals. The past guest list of Shortcutz Amsterdam includes luminaries such as Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), Michael Fassbender (Shame), Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), Béla Tarr (Satantango), Heddy Honigmann (Forever), and Jan Harlan (The Shining), among many others.
