Growing up in an artistic family, Dan is confronted with all kinds of 'weird things', such as John Cage and absurdist jazz, but also AC/DC and Deep Purple from the neighbors. All this led to a Gouden Kalf award for his short film Elephant Feet in 2011, a collection of 7 harmoniums, a lot of tactile sound design and a clear statement about the difference between film and music (which, according to Dan, doesn’t exist).
