Meriç Artaç - The Arrival of Mr. Z
Over the past two years, the talented composer Meriç Artaç has created five striking musical characters during her journey as artist-in-residence at Festival Dag in de Branding. Characters inspired by people she meets on the street and then brought to life with great imagination. In her new opera The Arrival of Mr. Z, Artaç brings the five together in a search for their creator: Mr. Z.
Meriç Artaç questions in The Arrival of Mr. Z what she sees happening around her. She discusses the role of external mechanisms in our society, such as faith, philosophy, ideals and power. To what extent do they have a connecting function and to what extent do they pose a threat? The Arrival of Mr. Z is a reflection on the tension between individual freedom and the need to find support from powers outside yourself. A visual opera about change and hope with a beautiful cast of stage personalities.
