Roel Weerdenburg - Composer, sonic designer and visual artist

Roel Weerdenburg is a composer, sonic designer and visual artist. Since his graduation from the bachelor program Music & Technology at the University of the Arts Utrecht, he has been focussing on the composition and performance of music, the creation of sounds and the construction of audio/visual installations.

Recurring techniques in his work are complex feedback systems, the exploration and exploitation of sonic and visual artefacts, combining hardware and software and the spatial use of sound and video.

Roel’s musical works and performances have a strong focus on rhythm and the timbral developments of sound. While being particularly drawn towards artificial and synthesized sounds, he also composes (electro-)acoustic music.

The audio/visual installations he makes are mainly focussed on the repurposing, adapting, recycling and upcycling of old electronic equipment.

Compositions, installations and performances were presented at places such as Ars Electronica, GOGBOT, WORM Rotterdam, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Uncloud Festival, Bring Your Own Beamer, FAQ Festival, Pitch Festival and Amsterdam Dance Event.

At the moment, Roel is working on recurring projects as an autonomous (performing) artist, a technical producer/manager, sound designer, (co-)organizer of events, curator, teacher, and more.
