Maarten de Rooij - Multimedia composer

Up-and-coming Dutch media composers show their recent work and tell us who they are

Maarten de Rooij is a 25-year-old autodidact multimedia composer. After experimenting with various genres of music in high school, a deep love for film inspired him to delve into the realm of composing film music. With the help of books and YouTube, he started learning the tricks of the trade and was happy to compose music for various commercials, short films, and YouTube videos over the last few years. His work included campaigns for Fanta, Cameranu, and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport. Characterized by a hybrid mix of traditional and experimental sounds, Maarten always tries to infuse his music with a sense of liveliness. In early 2024, he completed his first-ever feature-length project; a documentary called “de Queeste”.

Currently, he is also in the final stages of completing his degree in Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Given the rapid development of digital technologies and the explosive growth of artificial intelligence, big challenges and opportunities await. Maarten is excited about the opportunity to integrate his degree into his composing profession.
