Janrinke Bruinsma - Composer

Up-and-coming Dutch media composers show their recent work and tell us who they are

Janrinke Bruinsma is a Dutch composer who specialises in composition for film and video games. He started out doing covers of video game music under the name “Rinke Johannes”, and started the study Composition and Music Production at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen in 2020.

His music takes inspiration from the orchestral worlds of classic hollywood and 20th century avant garde composition, to the complex rhythms and fast paced riffs of progressive rock and metal, and the raw textures of various forms of folk music. With these, he creates richly textured and highly melodic music that accompanies and supports the emotional arc of films and games.

His music has been critiqued as “almost too beautiful” by a judge of the Score Relief 2024 competition. He has also won Best Soundtrack at the 48 Hour Film Project Groningen 2022 for his short film “De Droomweg”.

Whether it’s plucky banjo or menacing string dissonances, Janrinke Bruinsma takes a casual but professional approach to working together with other creatives to tell an emotional story.
